Janusz Bohatkiewicz, DEng, PhD is a road construction engineer, a specialist dealing with issues of road design and traffic engineering and the impact of traffic on the environment, as well as eco-infrastructural solutions. He has authored and co-authored more than 100 scientific papers, guidelines, handbooks in the field of roads and bridges. He directed and participated in many projects of practical and application nature mainly in the field of roads and railroads: technical and economic studies, conceptual designs, construction and construction-execution projects, technical expertise, acoustic maps, environmental noise protection programs, reports on the impact of road and railroad projects on the environment, post-implementation analyses, ecological reviews. In 2016-2021 he headed the Department of Roads and Bridges at Lublin University of Technology, and is currently Director of the Road and Bridge Research Institute. A member of the PIARC World Road Association from 2019 to 2023, he participated in Technical Committee TC.3.4. “Environmental Sustainability in Road Infrastructure and Transport” and Task Group TF.4.1 “Road Design Standards,” and from 2024 he is Chairman of Technical Committee TC 4.5 “Decarbonization of Road Construction and Maintenance”.
